Restart Receipt Pod
Win your own restart receipt safely as a unit of three or four.
- Time
- 20 minutes
- Players
- 3 to 8 players
- Intensity
- High
- Equipment
- Ball, cones
- Space
- 10m x 10m zone
- Positions
- Locks, back row, props, hookers
Setup
A 10m x 10m receipt zone, a catcher, two lifters and a support player. One ball, a kicker or a partner throwing high.
How to run it
- The ball is delivered into the zone and the pod works as a unit: the catcher calls early and loudly with one voice, the lifters set underneath before the ball arrives rather than chasing it, and the catcher takes it at full extension with a long body.
- The lifters must bring the catcher back to the ground safely - that is a law requirement, not a courtesy, and releasing early is both dangerous and penalisable.
- The support player positions between the catcher and the chase to secure the ball on landing.
- Practise the alternative too: tapping the ball back to a team-mate rather than catching it.
- Ten receipts per position across three zones.
Coaching cues
- One voice, calling early
- Lifters set before the ball arrives, don't chase it
- Bring the catcher back to ground safely, every time
Common mistakes
- Lifters chasing the ball instead of setting under the catcher
- The catcher landing on their back because a supporter released early - a safety failure and a possible penalty
