    Setup

Goal posts, a kicking tee (a sand pile or shallow divot works, but be honest that a flat ball on grass changes the strike), and five balls. Cones marking your kicking spots.

    How to run it

    1. Tee the ball upright with the valve pointing at your target and select a specific point between the posts, not just 'the posts'.
    2. Then run the quiet eye sequence exactly: focus on a spot on the bottom half of the ball, fixate through the middle of the posts, make no more than three fixations total, hold a quiet eye on the ball for 2-3 seconds before starting your run-up, keep your gaze locked on the ball throughout the approach, and stay head-down through the kicking action.
    3. Approach in an arc to open your hips, plant your non-kicking foot a hip's width from the ball, and strike about one third up from the bottom.
    4. Use Alred's 3-3-3-3 structure - three kicks from one spot then move to a new spot - rather than 12 from the same place.

    Coaching cues

    • No more than three fixations between ball and posts
    • Quiet eye on the ball for 2-3 seconds before you move
    • A point between the posts, not the posts

    Common mistakes

    • Lifting the head early, which is the primary strike fault and exactly what quiet eye trains out
    • Generating power from the leg alone rather than through hip rotation off the arced approach
