- 20 minutes
- Players
- 1 to 2 players
- Intensity
- Low
- Equipment
- Ball
- Space
- 7-10m from a wall
- Positions
- Halfbacks, back row, hookers
Setup
A wall with a target marked at chest height, 7-10m away. One ball. Mark your foot position on the ground so it is identical every rep.
How to run it
- Place the ball on the ground and set your near foot beside it - right foot to the ball when passing with your right hand, left foot when passing left - with your other foot pointing at the target.
- Sink at the hips, bend your knees and keep your head over the ball.
- Sweep the ball from the floor to the target in one single movement; the fault that ruins this pass is lifting it first and then passing, which is two movements and far too slow.
- Follow through with both hands pointing at the target, then reset the ball completely and go again.
- Do 5 sets of 6 passes each direction, 60 in total.
Coaching cues
- One sweep - never lift then pass
- Rear foot to the ball, front foot points where it's going
- Follow through with both hands at the target
Common mistakes
- Lifting the ball first and then passing, which is two movements and gives the defence time
- Foot not rotated outwards so the hips stay square and your hand hits your own knee
