- Space
- 4m x 2m
- Positions
- All positions
Setup
A 4m x 2m area with three attackers on their knees 2m apart, and a defender on their knees 2m in front aligned with the middle attacker.
How to run it
- On go, the ball is passed either left or right - or held - with only one pass allowed, and the defender turns to face the attackers and tackles whoever is advancing with the ball.
- Keep your eyes up sighting the hip area, then move your head behind the attacker for a side-on tackle or to the side if they are coming straight.
- Plant the shoulder firmly, thrust your arms through and around them and drive your knees upwards, staying square and reacting late rather than committing to a side early.
- Five reps per defender, four full rotations - everyone kneeling makes this the lowest-risk decision drill there is.
Coaching cues

- Stay square and react late
- Plant the shoulder, thrust the arms, drive the knees
